Afternoon Planks in the Office
a

a
Katie Gallman and Olivia Conti work for
Randstad Technologies and attend the 6am HSM Beyond Barre Class.
Inspired by Jamie saying if you only have one spare minute in your
day, you can re-energize and work your entire body by holding a plank,
Katie and Olivia got a few coworkers together to take their first 4pm
Plank Break. The movement caught on and now includes several coworkers
every afternoon in the office boardroom competing to see who can hold
the longest plank!
Here are a few of their comments:
I like to get away from my desk, clear my mind, and work my body! Jamie
says "Even if you only have one minute in the day, you can work every
muscle in your body in this position!" Katie Gallman (Back left)
"I just like sticking my butt in the air..."Tom Bonner (the only man in
the picture!) He also just got engaged and needs to work on those abs!!
"We have a very stressful job, so it is a nice release to take a couple of
minutes out of the day to do something that helps me feel like I’m staying
in touch with my wellness instead of being a fat sloth at my desk all day.
Clearly we are all competition freaks so that adds some fun to our day."
Olivia Conti (on table on the right)
"Ditto to Liv - sitting behind a desk makes me feel like a fatty and it's
nice to get up and actually do something! Plus it's fun to compete to see
who can go longest - even though I always lose!!" Gina Loreno (on the
table to the left)
Thanks Gang and keep us posted on your 4PM Plank results!!!

Health Tip: No Shoes, No Socks, No Nonsense
Our feet contain an astounding 25% of the body’s bones and each one of
them has an important function. Encasing our feet into shoes and
constantly walking on artificial surfaces weakens our feet by depriving
them of the natural workout that the muscles require, eventually causing
strength and fine motor skill loss that is vital for our feet to properly
support our bodies. We call on the muscles of the ankle to take the load
instead which leads to further weakening the foot muscles. There are all
sorts of domino effects that can come from weak feet, i.e. ankle and knee
problems and even hip problems. This is one of the reasons Hilliard Studio
Method™ workouts are in bare feet. Standing in second position on the
balls of the feet is much tougher than doing it with big padded shoes on –
and much healthier for not only your feet but the balance of your entire
body. At Hilliard Studio Method we take the body as a whole and set the
barre high to strengthen not only our muscles, but our mind and spirit as
well!
